Janaka Rajapakse

Prof. Janaka Rajapakse is a prominent scholar in the field of digital media, currently serving as an Associate Professor at the Graduate Institute of Animation and Film Art at Tainan National University of the Arts, Taiwan. His academic journey began in Sri Lanka with a B.Sc. in computer science before venturing to Japan on a scholarship. He earned both his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 2005 and 2008, respectively.

Prof. Rajapakse boasts a diverse academic career, holding positions such as Academic Collaboration Advisor at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and visiting scholar at Tokyo Polytechnic University. He previously served as an Assistant Professor in the CG Application Laboratory and a special researcher in the Center for Hyper Media Research.

His research interests encompass a wide range of digital media technologies, including computer animation, augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR/XR), artificial intelligence (AI), haptic interfaces, motion capture, and computer graphics. He is also deeply invested in 3D printing, interactive media, and Kansei engineering.

Prof. Rajapakse's dedication to the field extends beyond research. He has authored or co-authored over eighty academic publications, establishing himself as a thought leader. His expertise is further recognized through his numerous keynote and invited speaker engagements at international conferences. His commitment to the artistic dimension of digital media is evident in his participation as a judge in international animation festivals and exhibitions. Prof. Rajapakse has also showcased his creative work through solo and group exhibitions held around the world. His achievements include the prestigious "Art International Award" from the Japan Information and Culturology Society in 2016.
